New Paltz Addition
Projecting from the existing footprint, the house was reoriented towards the dramatic vista. Additional areas, including a second story, accommodate a large, loft-like living space with a master suite above. Large expanses of glass maximize the view to Mohonk Mountain beyond, framing glorious sunset panoramas.
By utilizing the existing structure and adding up more than out, we kept the footprint of the house compact, reducing energy consumption. Other “green” features include cellulose-based, spray foam insulation; radiant floor heat; ultra-high-efficiency mechanical equipment; low “e” argon glass; and sunlight-shading trellises.
The house balances traditional materials such as cedar shingles with contemporary details including a heat-reflecting, standing seam metal roof - providing its owners with a home nestled in a magnificent landscape yet efficiently responsive to modern lives.
