524 State Street

Brooklyn

Challenge

524 State Street is nested on a quiet tree-lined street in historic downtown Brooklyn. Built in the mid-19th century, the original structure was a dilapidated three story brick townhouse with unfortunate post WWII additions (which had to be reversed), and a landscaped rear yard.

The goal of this project was to upgrade the house through maximum expansion of living areas to accommodate a growing family of six. Dynamic new interiors are integrated with landscaped outdoor spaces in a cost conscious, sustainable design preserving the quiet, historical character of the neighborhood.
